PainMedExpert Consulting was founded to bring clarity, objectivity, and clinical expertise to complex medical questions in litigation. Drawing on more than 25 years of active clinical experience in pain medicine and rehabilitation, the practice provides expert witness and medical-legal consulting services to both plaintiff and defense attorneys.
Our approach is grounded in careful review of the medical evidence, current standards of care, and real-world clinical experience. Each case is evaluated on its individual merits, with a commitment to independent analysis and clear, well-supported opinions—regardless of which side has retained us.
About the Expert
Michael B. Jacobs, MD, MPH
Dr. Michael Jacobs is a board-certified specialist in Pain Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation with more than 25 years of clinical experience. He remains actively engaged in patient care, with a practice focused on interventional pain management, spine care, and rehabilitation.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Jacobs has extensive experience providing expert witness and medical-legal consulting services to both plaintiff and defense attorneys. His work includes medical record and case review, standard-of-care and causation analysis, independent medical examinations, expert reports, depositions, and trial testimony. He approaches each matter objectively, applying his clinical experience and the relevant medical evidence to provide clear, well-supported opinions.
Dr. Jacobs served for more than 20 years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. During his final tour at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, he cared for service members with complex combat-related injuries, an experience that inspired him to pursue advanced training in pain management. His Navy service included roles in undersea and hyperbaric medicine, occupational medicine, public health, and interventional pain management, as well as service as a White House Medical Unit physician and consultant to the Navy Surgeon General. He was recognized as a Master Clinician by Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and received numerous military honors, including the Joint Meritorious Service Medal.
Following his military career, Dr. Jacobs practiced with MedStar Health and National Spine and Pain Centers before joining Precision Orthopedics in 2025, where he currently practices. He earned his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania, his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Jacobs has contributed to national education and leadership in pain medicine through his work with the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and has held faculty positions at Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He has published and lectured on topics including spinal cord stimulation, radiofrequency ablation, post-amputation pain, and sacroiliac joint pain.
